Family policies

Whether you may watch, what to wear, who collects and how photos are handled.

Photos of your child

We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.

Watching class and recitals

Grown-ups of the first steps classes wait in the front hall, which has a window onto the Tap Room. Week 6 of every session is a watch week: families sit along the studio wall and watch the class. On other days we keep the door closed so dancers can hear their teacher, and the window stays open to you. Recital seating is open, and your own photos and video at the recital follow the rule printed on the program.

What to wear and bring

A fitted top with leggings or shorts, hair off the face and no jewelry other than stud earrings. Socks are fine for the first weeks, and we will tell you when it is time for tap shoes or jazz shoes. Grown-up classes wear anything they can move in. We take costume sizes in person, in the winter.

When to keep your child home

Please keep your dancer home with a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, and until they have been well for a full day. Text or call the studio and we will tell you how a missed class can be made up.

Drop-off and pickup

A grown-up brings and collects every dancer in the first steps classes, and the teacher hands each dancer to the person who came with them. For older dancers the door opens ten minutes before class, and we ask you to tell us who is collecting. We ask for ID from anyone we haven't met.

Absences and late arrival

Text or call the studio when your dancer will miss a class, and we will tell you how to make it up. A dancer who arrives late joins at the next break in the music.

Closures for weather and holidays

We close for school holidays and for the week of Thanksgiving. When the weather closes the studio, we text every family by two in the afternoon and post a notice on the parent portal.

Screens and phones

Phones stay in bags in the studio, and we do not record in class. On watch week you may take a short clip of your own dancer from the wall, and at the recital you may record from your seat.

Still wondering?

Ask at the door, call the studio or send a message.
