Performance group

A Wednesday class for dancers who want more, ages 12 to 17.

The performance group learns a piece to share at the June recital and at a few community events, with the dates told to families as they come. Dancers join by invitation after a spring audition, which is a regular class with a longer warm-up and no stage.

  • Ages 12 to 17

  • One hour and fifteen minutes on Wednesdays

  • Classes of up to 12

  • The Tap Room

What a rehearsal is like

  1. 01

    Step 1: Warm-up

Stretching, then a few minutes of tap sounds to bring the room into time.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The piece

Learning, cleaning and repeating the section the group is working on.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Running it

A run through with the music, and a plan for where everyone stands.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Notes

A few words from the teacher about what to practice at home.

Before you come

  • What to wear

Practice clothes that allow movement, tap shoes and hair off the face. Costumes for the recital are ordered in the winter, and sizes are taken in person.

  • Level

The performance group sits next to rhythm phrases. Dancers stay as long as they like, and join the group when the teacher invites them.
