Tap
Sound first and steps second, for ages 6 to 17.
Every class starts with the feet: heels, toes, brushes and shuffles on the boards, counted out loud. Dancers are grouped by age and level, so a first-timer of 10 is never lost among dancers who have tapped for years.
Ages 6 to 8, 9 to 11 or 12 to 17
Forty-five minutes for ages 6 to 8, an hour or more above

The Tap Room

What a class is like
- 01
Step 1: Warm-up
Walking, stretching and rolling the ankles to wake up the feet, then a few minutes to find a place on the floor.
- 02
Step 2: Sounds
Heels, toes, brushes and shuffles, one sound at a time, until the whole room is in time.
- 03
Step 3: Across the floor
Steps travel a few dancers at a time, with time to try each one twice.
- 04
Step 4: The combination
A short dance that grows a little each week, shown to families on watch week.
- 05
Step 5: Cool-down
A last stretch, a clap of the new rhythm and a few words about next week.
Before you come
What to wear
A fitted top with leggings or shorts, hair off the face and socks for the first weeks. Tap shoes join the class when the teacher says it is time, so please wait before buying a pair.
Level
Tap runs from first steps at 6 to rhythm phrases at 12 and over. Dancers move up when the teacher and the family agree, and there is no test.

Deanna and Gabe teach the tap classes between them, and the teacher keeps an eye on every dancer's move to the next level.
