Jazz

A warm-up that moves, for ages 6 to 17.

Jazz classes start with isolations, moving one part of the body at a time to a beat, then travel across the floor in walks, turns and leaps. Each session ends with a short routine that families see on watch week.

  • Ages 6 to 8, 9 to 11 or 12 to 17

  • Forty-five minutes for ages 6 to 8, one hour above

  • Classes of up to 8, 10 or 12

  • The Back Room

A large studio with a wooden floor, a stack of mats and a bank of windows, empty

Before you come

  • What to wear

A fitted top with leggings or shorts, hair off the face, and jazz shoes or bare feet. We will tell you in the first weeks if shoes are needed.

  • Level

Jazz is grouped like tap: first steps at 6, time steps at 9 and rhythm phrases at 12. A dancer can take tap, jazz or both.
